The Living Room is continually searching for potential board members who bring specific skills and experience, such as as backgrounds in mental health, homeless services, accounting, human resources, the law, fundraising, event planning, and public relations. The Board sets policy for the organization and oversees all financial aspects of the The Living Room.
During their three-year term, board members are responsible for attending monthly board meetings and for serving on at least one board committee. The time commitment to serve on the Board varies, but averages 10 to 12 hours per month.
The board as a whole plays a key role in developing fundraising strategies, volunteering for special events, and supporting staff members.
You might also consider serving on a Board committee (instead of the full board) as a community member. This would require less time, and is a good introduction to the governance of The Living Room. Board committees generally meet six to twelve times per year, for two hours per meeting, or as needed. The committees include:
